OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT
A STATEMENT TO NAOSSITES ON THE UNAUTHORIZED ESSAY COMPETITION BY THE SUSPENDED VICE PRESIDENT III
Dear NAOSSITES,
It has become necessary to address the recent controversy surrounding the Recumbent unauthorized Essay Writing Competition initiated by Salawu Adebayo. This administration, since its inception on January 19th, has been dedicated to reshaping NAOSS’s image as a purposeful union. We have undertaken strategic efforts to implement programs that prepare our members for life beyond academics.
To this end, we have engaged with key institutions—including the Bank of Agriculture, Bank of Industry, MTN Nigeria, MTN Foundation, the Center for Youth Development, the Industry Development Center, and the Osun State Ministry of Education—to secure collaborations and sponsorships for student-focused initiatives. While results are still forthcoming, we remain steadfast in delivering tangible outcomes. Additionally, we are working with the Office of the SSA and relevant stakeholders to secure a temporary Secretariat for NAOSS, with long-term plans for a permanent National Headquarters underway.
Regarding the Essay Competition, It was not an idea of salawu as claimed that brought up the essay innovation. The Executive Council had collectively agreed on the following framework to implement the essay competition in accordance before it was selfishly planned to hijack by the office of the Vice President III, which was disregarded and declared as void:
1. Senatorial District Committees: Vice Presidents would chair committees comprising executives from their respective districts.
2. District-Level Competitions: Each district would organize its own Essay Writing Competition.
3. State-Level Finals: Winners from each district would advance to a final statewide competition.
4. Prizes: Separate prizes would be awarded at both district and state levels.
5. Publicity: The PROs had already issued a press release in anticipation of the program’s launch.
However, the Vice President III of Osun West unilaterally disregarded this structure. Instead of collaborating with fellow executives, he usurped their authority, proceeded independently, and branded the competition under his office. Despite repeated attempts to dissuade him, he persisted, exacerbating divisions within NAOSS and undermining collective leadership.
This decision to halt the unauthorized event was made to preserve unity and fairness. Permitting such actions would set a dangerous precedent, risking factionalism and disarray. The resolution was supported unanimously by the Executive Council, except the erring Vice President III.
Let me reiterate: This administration operates with transparency and zero tolerance for personal agendas. Since the assuming office, NAOSS 2025 has not solicited or accepted any unauthorized funds or incentives. Our commitment remains solely to serving Osun State students.
We appreciate your trust and support as we continue to uphold the integrity of NAOSS.
God bless NAOSS National Headquarters.
God bless NAOSSITES.
God bless Osun State.
Signed,
Mustafa Akinsumbo Adedibu
NAOSS National President, 2025
