The Lere Students' Movement (LSM) Campaign Committee has continued its grassroots mobilisation campaign with a voter sensitisation programme at Obada Market, Ikire, where it engaged traders, artisans, transport workers, and other market stakeholders on the need to participate actively in the forthcoming governorship election.
The committee said the market sensitisation formed part of its campaign strategy aimed at canvassing support for the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Addressing the gathering, members of the committee highlighted the achievements of Governor Adeleke's administration in Ikire, including road construction, Construction of public schools, rehabilitation of primary healthcare centres, the provision of motorised boreholes, installation of electricity transformers, and other developmental interventions.
According to the committee, the Governor's performance has brought visible improvements to the lives of residents and justified its support for his second-term bid.
The committee further urged voters to evaluate candidates based on their performance in office rather than political promises or personal affiliations. It argued that the current administration has delivered more tangible projects to Ikire than previous administrations.
The committee also drew a comparison with the previous administration, stating that, the community witnessed no developmental projects despite having an indigene of Ikire serve as the state's Commissioner for Finance in the past administration. It maintained that residents should carefully assess the records of those seeking public office and cast their votes accordingly.
"Leadership should be judged by its impact on the lives of the people. We believe Governor Ademola Adeleke has demonstrated his commitment to the development of Ikire through visible projects and people oriented policies. That is why we are encouraging the people to vote for performance, "the committee stated.
Responding to the campaign, some market women expressed appreciation for projects they said had positively impacted the community. One of the traders noted that the installation of, solar-powered street lights at Obada Market through the intervention of Senator Lere Oyewumi has significantly improved security within the market.
"Before now, theft and shop break-ins were common in this market, especially at night. Since the installation of the solar street lights, the situation has improved greatly. We appreciate Senator Lere Oyewumi for remembering us and Governor Ademola Adeleke for the development taking place across our community," she said.
At the conclusion of the sensitisation programme, traders and other stakeholders at Obada Market pledged their support for the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke, expressing confidence in his administration's developmental strides. They affirmed their commitment to casting their votes in support of his second-term bid to ensure the continuity of the ongoing development across Osun State.
The Lere Students' Campaign Committee reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful voter education, grassroots mobilisation, and issue-based campaigns, expressing confidence that the people of Ikire with voter massively for Governor Ademola at the poll.
