The family of former President Muhammadu Buhari has officially announced his passing. According to a statement signed by his longtime media aide, Mallam Garba Shehu, the former Nigerian leader died this afternoon, Saturday, July 13, 2025, at a private clinic in London, United Kingdom.

Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023, and earlier as military Head of State from 1983 to 1985, was a central figure in Nigeria's political evolution. His tenure was marked by a fierce anti-corruption drive, war against insurgency, and efforts to reposition Nigeria’s global standing.

The late President passed on at the age of 82. He had been receiving medical care in London, where he reportedly took his final breath surrounded by close family and aides.

Tributes have begun to pour in from Nigerian leaders, international allies, and citizens across the country, mourning the passing of a man many viewed as a symbol of discipline, nationalism, and integrity.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.

May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal peace in Aljannatul Firdaus. Ameen.
